The Soul Of A Home

By Pat Brill You know the one we're talking about. It's the room you head to when your sister calls at 3:00 a.m. with a crying newborn and panic in her voice. It's the room where your kids visit with you after school and tell you all about their day. It's the room where your dearest friends gather for drinks, where your spouse makes you laugh after a long day, where you go to count your blessings, or to have a quiet cup of tea. It's the room closest to your heart. Every home has one. One room that family life seems to gravitate to for whatever reason. It doesn't have to be the most beautiful, the most comfortable, or even the most logical, but it's there. It could be the kitchen, the family room, or even your bedroom. You all just end up there somehow, talking and laughing and sharing experiences. Whatever this magic room may be, you can turn it into a space more conducive for relaxing and spending time in with very little effort. The most important element is already there. The room has love and soul and character in place. All you need to add is the supporting cast. If the kitchen is the heart of your home, look at what you do there. Cooking obviously, but what else? Is this where you bond with your closest friends, sharing coffee and laughter and cheering each other on? Do your children do their homework in there while you prepare dinner? Is this where Arts and Crafts time is? Do you and your spouse manage the household here in the evening, sharing a dessert? Once you've taken a look at all the important events that are taking place here, you can better customize this space for your family. If the kids do their homework at the dinner table, have a plastic bin stocked with supplies they might need such as a calculator, pens, pencils, paper, a ruler, construction paper, etc. Once homework is done this can be slid into a cabinet or tucked away until the next day. Backpacks can be hung on hooks with homework safely inside until the race for the bus begins the next morning. This same rule can be applied for arts and crafts materials. Have all supplies tucked into a bin to make take out and cleanup a breeze. If the family room is where you all end up, keep it stocked for family time. Keep games available so if a last-minute decision is made to delve into Monopoly for the evening's entertainment, you don't have to race through the house looking for it. Make sure the kids have some of their toys in an appropriate corner, so if you want to spend time with them, you can all play together. A family jigsaw puzzle corner might be fun. Also look at the furniture. If the kids enjoy playing on the floor, is the layout conducive to that? Rearranging a bit might make it easier for them to zoom their cars around, or lay on the floor coloring. Only you know how your family truly functions, so customizing a room to work better won't be hard to do. We're not talking major makeover here, but small touches you can add to make the room function just a little bit better. The fabric that makes up your family's life is being woven in this room, the soul of your home, and there's no better way to honor that than by devoting some energy to making it a better place to be. Some Keys To Maintain Your Weight For A Lifetime

By Glenn Freiboth If you are like most people who are dieting and have been on the up and down yo-yo of fad diets and you are sick and tired of losing and gaining the same weight back over and over these keys will give you some help to lose the weight and keep it off for a lifetime. One of the most important things that one can do is keep a journal of what you eat, everything you eat. Read that again. EVERYTHING! It will not help you if you cheat. No one will see it but you. It is best to try to record what you are taking in as you are eating as not to forget. Another benefit is that it may stop you from eating something if you know you are going to have to write it down because a month from now when you are trying to see why you arent losing weight you will see all the bad stuff you shouldnt have eaten. Eat balanced meals and spread them out over smaller meals and portions. Low calorie diets work for a short period of time but they are very tough to stay on for a long period of time. You will get tired and irritable, lack the energy to do any exercise, and it makes it difficult to plan meals at home as well as dining out. The best rule of thumb is to not starve yourself nor overindulge. The most important meal is breakfast and you should be sure to eat a very healthy breakfast every morning. Although the standard suggestion is three meals per day you will receive much better results by spreading your daily intake out over six smaller meals. This will also keep your metabolism stoked up and keep your blood sugar at optimal levels. Eat foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. Fresh is better. Try to stay away from packaged foods, if it comes in a package it has had something done to it by man. Avoid the convenience type foods that are in the heat and eat kind of packaging, they are usually full of calories and sodium. Drink water whenever possible in place of sodas, tea, and other beverages. Our bodies need a gallon of water a day which is the eight 8 ounce glasses that you always hear about. If you work or live in an environment with excessive heat or you are exercising you will need more. In closing the big key to maintaining weight loss for a long period of time is to exercise more and eat less. I know you wanted some magic secret. But it really is that simple. The Victorian Language of Fans - They Have a Language of Their Own!

By Luanne Oda Did you know that in Victorian times the ladies had an unspoken "fan" language? Maybe a tradition we should bring back today! Here are some of the meanings: If a young lady held her fan to her lips, it begged a kiss Dropping it meant friendship only Drawing it across her eyes meant an apology The fan placed near the heart signaled You have won my love Did she hide the eyes behind an open fan ~ I love you Running her fingers through the fans ribs meant, "I want to talk." Opening and closing the fan several times ~ You are cruel ~ Fanning slowly meant I am married Fanning quickly meant I am engaged Passing the fan from one hand to another meant, "I see you are looking at another." Using it to move her hair away from her forehead meant, "Don't forget me!" Twirling the fan in the left hand ~ You are being watched ~ You will find stunning handmade battenburg or Belgium lace antique look fan. Styled after a beauty from days gone by. Lovely for a bride, bridesmaids, or flower girls. Nice displayed on a bridal shower table or even hanging on the wall for your Shabby Chic or Victorian decors. Cheese and Food Gifts

By Peter Emerson Food gifts are a variation from the conventional gifting patterns. They can be very innovative. It is delightful to receive a surprise food gift basket. Cheese is an popular gift in the gourmet food world. Cheese parties or cheese tasting parties are apt occasions for gifting cheese food gifts. Cheese is an important ingredient in many meals and snacks. Cheese is obtained by processing the milk of animals such as cows and goats. There are many different kinds of cheese available. Many popular varieties come from France and Holland. A variety of dips are made using cheese. Some popular types of cheese varieties are Cheddar, Parmesan or Camembert. Flavored cheese is very popular as dessert. Cheesecakes of different flavors are a popular delicacy. Lemon and strawberry flavored cheesecakes are all time favorites. Cheese spreads are also made. Some are combined with pepper to make delicious sandwich fillings. These spreads come in different flavors. Cheese can be gifted in any one of these forms. Cheese food gifts are loved and welcomed by children and adults alike. It is now possible to gift cheese from any place in the world. Packaged cheese baskets, with a combination of various cheese products, can be gifted to friends. Cheese has a high nutrition content, but the nutritional value can be lost if it is not packed under the right conditions. Some variety of cheese has to be frozen during transit - a reputable company will know how to pack and ship the cheese, though. Cheese compliments all varieties of wine. A cheese food gift is always welcome at parties. Smoked cheese is a favorite starter. Blue cheese is an exclusive cheese that involves a long processing time. It is eaten with the moulds on it and is very expensive, compared to some varieties. A basket of the choicest varieties can be presented at most occasions. Cheese imported from other countries must be bought from reliable sources to ensure the quality. Wedding Photography, The Memory of Your Special Times

By Gordon Petten Your wedding is one of the most special times in your life and that it is why you need to capture the entire ceremony on camera and video. Most couples elect to hire professional photographers to help them capture their special day. Rates vary but a professional who has the experience and education you want will usually cost $150 or more an hour. These photographers will spend the day at your wedding and will take hundreds of photos so you and your family can relax and enjoy the wedding. This can be a very good option, especially if you do not have the professional camera or equipment that is needed. Professional photographers and agencies have the latest digital cameras and video recorders and this can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars as these professional cameras are very expensive and often cost much more than $1000 and can go as high at $8000 and beyond. Hiring a professional photographer also allows your friends and family to relax and not worry about taking hundreds of photographs and videos. To find a photographer, again simply do a search in Google or Yahoo! for "wedding photographers in [Your City]". This should provide a number of results for the most popular wedding photographers in your area who specialize in capturing the special moments of a wedding. When hiring a photographer, be sure to look for samples and see real pictures that they have taken for other weddings to get a sense of quality. Also, like every other aspect of planning a wedding, make sure you act for a list of references and contact all of the references. You probably need to hire two different people, one to take photographs and another to take videos using a digital video camcorder as it can be very difficult for one person to multitask these two duties and although it may save you a little bit of money, you will ultimately end up with lower quality photos and fewer photos. wedding photography companies realize this and most of them offer some sort of discount or package if you hire both a professional photographer as well as someone to capture the wedding on video. Hiring a photographer will enable you to remember your special day forever so it is very important that you hire a professional photographer who will able to do their job well and archive your happiest moments. What Is Better Than FREE?

By James Burchill Oh come on! FREE is free. Zero, zip, nada, zilch. What on earth could be better than FREE? I recently told you FREE was the most powerful word in advertising. Nothing has changed, it still is. So what is with the headline of this article? What is better than FREE? Well before I explain, lets recap a little first. FREE is the most powerful word in marketing and advertising world because at its very heart lies the secret of risk reversal. If you recall, in the previous article I was encouraging you to make your offer as close to risk-free as possible. And if you do this, you will be ahead of most of your competition. --- Beyond Risk Reversal Getting over the risk associated with making the wrong choice, or making the choice and then having the product under deliver or simply not work, is a problem that every buyer struggles with. And for what its worth, most people are more afraid of making the wrong choice and looking foolish, than they are of just making the wrong choice. So if you can negate this fear, if you stack the deck in your favour. If you can get the buyer over that hurdle, they will be one step closer to saying yes. --- Lets Dance In any business transaction there is a silent dance that plays out every time someone offers something for sale, and someone considers buying it. Each party silently tries to maneuver themselves into a position where their risk is limited. As the seller, you can help the buyer get to that place if you assume all or more of the risk, then you will have less trouble selling your product or service. Its that simple. --- But James, nothing in life is really free. Well, that is true to some extent. Even if I gave you something free, what it really means is that you did not have to part with any money. You paid no cash. You may still have spent time and energy on the sales process; you may have invested yourself emotionally in the prospect of owning that flashy new fangled widget. Therefore, in reality, you have spent something you spent time. And time unlike money is non-refundable. Time is finite and as the old saying goes Time waits for no man. So if your prospect has accepted your request to explore the possibility of buying something from you, and has even gone so far as to consider making a deal with you, what can you do to clinch it? Well you can let them know you value their time. You can show them you respect them for taking the time to meet with you. You can show them that you appreciated their consideration of your product or service. --- And The Answer Is And so the answer to your question what is better than free? is Better Than Risk Free or BTRF for short. Simply put, a BTRF offer rewards your customer for favouring you with their buying decision. In addition, if it does not work out you compensate them for their efforts. Here is a concrete example: Whether you sell products or services, give the client something extra as part of the main deal. If the extra premium is free, then so much the better. To make the deal even stronger, make it known that the whole deal is 100% guaranteed and youll refund their money if required (or whatever makes sense) and also let them know that regardless of the deals outcome, (and this is the BTRF part) they get to keep the premium item you gave them as your way of saying thank you. Better Than Risk Free is better than free. Jewish Dating - Learn the Skills

By Svetlana Polyakova It seemed that they were meant for each other, but now they are looking for a break-up! The difficulty this particular couple is facing is faced by many of us; in spite all of us at one point of time during the relationship. The Jewish dating community has some aspects that are quite different from other cultures. They are more willing to date some body from their own culture and religion. This is because they feel that the other person will be able to understand them better and their way of living, which is quite different from others. The matters of heart are the same everywhere, leaving aside the religion, caste and community. But the fact remains that two people from the same culture can exhibit more closeness and understanding than if they are from different backgrounds. In the Jewish community, dating is a part of pre marriage arrangements. The future couples are made to spend some months to analyze their partners so that they can maintain a better understanding after marriage. Usually, the Jewish Dating period is for three to four months but it may extend longer in some cases. This may happen when they are apprehensive about the state of affairs between them. Many times this is due to the extra pressure that these people are under. For example, they have to focus on marriage when they date and come to a positive conclusion. But this pressure acts in a negative way leading to dissatisfaction among the two. As an advice to these young couples, I would suggest that you should not set any kind of goals in your dating. Be free, express what you feel about this marriage an d the person in general and try to open him or her out. Be friendly to your partner. Don't think that you have to get attracted to him or her even if you don't like him. You are not bound to make an emotional relationship with him. Try to relax and enjoy the evening. Learn to explore the person and give him/ her a chance to feel at ease. Our proposal is not a difficult one to follow. It is a simple procedure that many consultants use, and believe me, it does work. It enables a person to be calmer and take things easily. This sets the stage for a steady development for a relationship to grow. How to find a Jewish mate? So if you are a Jewish and looking for a partner of the same community and culture then there are lot of resources that can help you meet your perfect mate. There are certain points you need to consider why selecting your perfect mate Decide in advance all the points you would like to have in your mate. It would be advisable to sort out all the issues in the initial stages of a relationship so that it does not lead to any problems in the future. You can also get involve with your local congregation and get to know interest and likes of member s there. You can also signup with a Jewish dating service on the web. This can help you locate many members who are from your local city and area. So what are you waiting for, let your feelings and relationship grow naturally under the shade of faith and love. Unique Gifts Mean Lasting Memories

By Neal Lohse Don't hold back, just be unique The idea of a finding a unique gift is seductive. If you think about it. Why have you even had the thought, I'll do something unique? Because you know in you heart it will have impact and will express part of what you feel for this person. You care and what it to be special. Right? In order to be unique and select a unique gift takes focus, imagination, time, stealth, and help. These are things within your sphere of influence. You are in charge of these. Focus Stop and give yourself permission to be unique. It doesn't take long. In short, you've given birth to an idea; it's now alive! Nurture it. Imagination The spark announcing you are thinking of being unique with your gift selection is a golden moment. When that thought pops into mind....acknowledge it, say "Yeah! Ill do that!" It's not so much the imagination as it is the recognizing the desire to act uniquely and following thorough with it. Time A simple idea registered and acted upon can take seconds to carry out. Yes, seconds. You know your time frame, choose something quickly, that feels right. Then gauge the response when you give it. My most cherished gifts from my daughter are made of things we collect on our travels: post cards, coasters, rocks, leaves, shells; simple stuff that she "packages" and gives to her Dad. It's a great approach and totally unique - every time. Shes a very busy pre-schooler and has no time at all to spare. Yet her approach is to use whats at hand and just do it! Adults can do this too! Stealth Always necessary in the unique gift giving game. Being sneaky keeps the cat in the bag and allows you to get an added thrill as you know and they don't. It also helps you check if you are on track or off. Keep it close, keep it quiet and keep it cool. Help Say this phrase: "I do not have to do this ALL by myself" Feel better? Thought so. Get others involved...Asking unlocks the doors of other worlds The idea will usually hit you in a flash. You see something like "Personalized Newspapers" - imagine your own dates, headlines and photos all reproduced on paper. Visually superb! It works and is FOREVER. Think about that. Forever. That's unique! Or perhaps for those that have it all or not very much....turn the common place into something unique. Take something that is routine and build around it the whole notion of something unique. The experience then becomes the unique gift. On holiday last year I needed a hair cut. I'm very fussy. So I visited two salons and selected what I thought was a better fit for me. The service I got was outstanding: A drink of tea, some fruit, a magazine of my choice (not dog eared), a complimentary wash, positive intelligent chat.... this person made me feel important and the business she represented gave her license to express herself with the customers. It was the best hair cutting experience I have ever had, bar none! It was superb. And...I wanted to share that experience with my family and friends. Here's the thing: I would have paid the same at the other salon. But I found -- more by luck than anything else -- something I could get enthusiastic about and share. So, wheres the unique gift you ask? I booked my Mum in there and then for a hair styling on her birthday with that same person knowing that she would be looked after. I told the store, the hair dresser in question, ordered some flowers for my Mum when she arrived and had the bill taken care of. There's a unique gift! Take something common and flip it about a bit. Finally... So, celebrate your uniqueness by diving right in! The water's fine...if you consider some simple steps. Will every unique gift idea work?.No!! But now you're in the unique gift groove you can re-cycle your ideas and use the same process to work out other unique gifts. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Neal Lohse is the author of Best Birthday Party Idea.com He describes himself is a Happy Person, Loving Spouse, Cool-Dad, Business Coach, Author, Corporate Philosopher, Event Designer, Education Facilitator, cook-washer-cleaner ...and is in love with a mountain-bike and a pair hiking boots. My Son is Bipolar

By Terry Coyier When I became pregnant, almost eight years ago, the first thing that crossed my mind, after my initial shock and elation, was the fact that my child would be predisposed to bipolar disorder. Not only had I been diagnosed with bipolar, but my unborn son's aunt and grandmother on his father's side, had also been treated for depression. Since mood disorders ran in both families, his risk was high - anywhere from 15-75%. At the time, terminating the pregnancy was not an option, besides that, I wanted a child. I was deemed a "high-risk" patient, due to my condition and the fact that it was imperative that I remain on my medications. Luckily I had two very well educated physicians who watched my pregnancy carefully. I had a special ultrasound that checked for any type of abnormality in his spine, head or brain. By the time I gave birth, at the age of thirty, I was confident my son was as healthy as any other child. During my son's first months, he behaved like any other child his age. He ate well, he slept well and he accomplished every milestone right on schedule. At some point, this changed. I honestly can't remember exactly when, but he began having severe difficulty sleeping. It was my first clue that something was wrong. He also became agitated easily and had temper tantrums. At about two and a half years old his daycare facility told us they were not equipped to handle him and suggested a Montessori school where children have more freedom to do what they want. I switched schools and this seemed to ease some of his tension, but only for awhile. Within a year, it became apparent that his behavior was not the same as the other children. I consulted with the child psychiatrist who was in practice with my own doctor. They concluded that he had ADHD and prescribed medication for him. I knew that many children were diagnosed incorrectly with ADHD when they should diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Within six months, I knew that my son had been misdiagnosed. He was crying every day, still throwing tantrums and constantly getting into trouble. Luckily, I scheduled his psychiatrist visits once a month and the misdiagnosis was quickly caught and corrected. We weaned him off of the AHDH medication and started him on a low dose of lithium. He reacted quickly, which is fortunate, and within a short time he gained some control over his erratic behavior. By the time he turned five, he still experienced episodes on a weekly basis and we continued to adjust his medication, desperately trying to find the right combination. Before we found it, he attacked a teacher at pre-school and I withdrew him from school. Kindergarten loomed a few months down the road and to say that I was scared didn't begin to cover how I felt. Finally we seemed to find the right combination of medications and he started school. Almost immediately he experienced problems. The school even went so far as to suspend him for two days for some incident that involved a tantrum and hitting. We eventually placed him on an individualized education program (IEP) that met his particular needs and he started going into a special classroom with other special needs kids. Unfortunately this wasn't the correct program for him, but soon they started a behavior unit at another school and he was accepted into it. It was a miracle for him. By the end of the year he was attending class in the regular kindergarten. He spent his entire first grade year in the regular classroom as well, with only three or four short stays in the behavior unit and less than two dozen incidents throughout the year - vast improvement over his kindergarten year. Next year he will be in second grade. My hopes are high that he will continue on his path to success. We've encountered a few problems over the summer, but an adjustment in medication put him on track again. My son is the most loving, sensitive, caring child I've ever met. I still worry about what the future holds for us both, especially him, but I am confident we can overcome anything. If you suspect that your child's behavior isn't appropriate, please, take him to the doctor for an evaluation. Early detection of mental disorders is imperative for children. The sooner they can receive treatment, the better their chances are of leading a stabile life. Terry J. Coyier is a 37-year-old college student studying for an Associates of Applied Sciences degree. She is also a freelance writer who writes about bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses. Terry was diagnosed with bipolar ten years ago. She lives with her son in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. Terry is an author on http://www.Writing.Com/ which is a site for Writers and her personal portfolio can be viewed here. Celedrin - The Natural way to be Free from Pain

By Keith Woolley When most people think of Celadrin, what comes to mind is usually basic information that's not particularly interesting or beneficial. But there's a lot more to Celadrin than just the basics. Celadrin or cetyl myristoleate - is one of a number of supplements taken by arthritis sufferers, but it really came into its own recently when the government withdrew popular painkillers like Vioxx from the market due to health concerns. This left many arthritis suffers with no option but to consider an operation to relieve their pain. An operation or a supplement like Celadrin? Many decided to try the less invasive option first. Traditionally, doctors have not been keen to offer supplements to their patients, but many are increasingly coming to see that products like Celadrin may be a suitable alternative for those people who for some reason cannot - or choose not to - have an operation. A scientist who was trying to understand why he couldnt induce arthritis into mice discovered Celadrin about a decade ago. It contains a blend of eight stable fatty acids that can easily penetrate cell membranes and by providing lubrication to the cell membranes and decreasing inflammation it supports joint health. In fact, research has shown that it definitely improves not only the range of motion in a joint affected by arthritis, but balance, strength and endurance were also improved. Placebo-controlled studies in 2002 showed that the subjects were able to perform several day-to-day functions like climbing stairs and even simply walking that had been painfully difficult before. Some subjects were even able to return to jogging, an exercise that had been impossible for some time due to the pain and stiffness experienced from arthritis. Is everything making sense so far? If not, I'm sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place. University bio-chemist Dr. Daniel Gallaher PhD, prescribes Celadrin for many of his patients and has had no side-effects reported. The pills may need be taken for at least two months before improvement is noticed, though in some cases this time is considerably shorter. Some patients have noted a dramatic improvement within a few days of applying the lotion. Daniel Hoeffal MD, advises his patients to take the product scientifically. That is, no more than one supplement at a time and stick to the instructions on the bottle. If several supplements are taken at once, there is no way of determining which was the one responsible for giving relief. Celadrin comes in pill form and topical lotion and is quite affordable compared to some other supplements, with the pills costing about $12.00 a bottle and the lotion half that. It is available as a stand-alone product, or combined with other products such as Glucosamine Always consult your health care professional before taking supplements, as some can interfere with the absorption of other medications, while others may change how internal organs function, cause blood pressure or clotting. This article's coverage of the information is as complete as it can be today. But you should always leave open the possibility that future research could uncover new facts. About The Author

String of Pearls -- A Call for Intercessors

By Emil Swift My wife had a vision recently of a string of pearls, adorning a bride
at her wedding. The "pearls" were the pastors in a given region. Not all
the pastors, but those who are allowing the Lord to "string them
together" in unity. In the vision, she saw these pearls were "double-
knotted" -- that's where each pearl on a necklace is knotted on both
sides so if the string ever breaks, pearls don't slide off to be lost... At most,
only the one pearl where the string breaks may be lost. Interpretation: Pastors are the "Pearls"! The pastors are vital to your
region, and must be upheld at all costs. These "pastor pearls" are
spiritual gates, as in Rev. 21:21 "The 12 gates were 12 pearls, each gate made
of a single pearl..." There are 12 gates/pearls because there are 12 Apostles. That
doesn't mean there are only 12 "pastors" in your region in unity, nor
does it mean that these are "five-fold apostles" either. That these gates/
pearls are the Twelve Apostles, points to our pastors as ministers of God's spiritual
authority over your region... Not "apostles" who inappropriately
"control" the lives of others, but as spiritual authority maintaining and
extending the Victory over the principalities and powers in your region. Also, these "pastor pearls" are "gates" into
the Presence of God for your region. Now, everyone knows a pearl isn't the size of
one of Heaven's "gates" and if it were, no person could walk through one
because they're quite solid. But this Heavenly "pearl" represents that
Suffering which Releases God's Mercy -- and every pastor who is led by the
Spirit of God, is a "suffering servant" through whom God's "
mercy" is released into the lives of God's children. Through honoring our
pastors, every Child of God who desires a greater release into the Life and Presence
of Christ can find it through the shepherd God has given to each of us. Knots help keep the pastors lifted up into the places God has put
them. The "knots" are "tied" by the prayers and intercessions
of the saints...but the "knots" are not the prayers themselves. The "knots" are
"Honor". Believers who intercede for
their pastors bring honor both to God and to these servants who have suffered for
the sake of bringing Christ to your region. As Believers continue to pray for their
pastors, they fulfill the role of Aaron and Hur who honored the God of Moses by
upholding Moses' authority (his staff, held in his hands -- Ex. 17.12.) A necklace adorning the Bride! The bride in the vision is the "Bride of
Christ"! The unity of the pearls, each held in place in honor by the Believers, is
part of the Preparation of the Bride in your region! The Prophetic Promise The vision is that of a string of pearls, strung together and each one
double-knotted. The Lord is setting before us a strategic opportunity (Gk.
topos) -- a koinonia (a project "co-owned" by all
who participate.) This is an opportunity to not only press into the Unity of Christ,
but for Believers to uphold their pastors in power and authority and thereby release
the Preparation of the Bride of Christ throughout this Age! "KingdomScribes" is a ministry led by Emil and Michele Swift. Their newsletter can

Speak Up: Your Job Is At Stake!

By Dale Kurow How good are you at standing up for yourself? Do you run the other way when done an injustice or when someone steps on your
proverbial toes? How do you react? Nows the time to speak up and stand your ground! If youve never done this, you
need to master this skill. How many of you watched the The Apprentice? While the show is not the ultimate
mirror of corporate life or a guide on how to be promoted, my clients have cited
specific show episodes to highlight weaknesses theyd like to improve. In the Apprentice episode during which Jessie was fired, she remained silent in the
boardroom while her team members were putting her down. Her reticence was THE
reason that Trump fired her. She was timid, and her inability to defend herself made
it appear that she agreed with her detractors. Have you declined to take a stand when you could have? How was that perceived? Heres a reality check for deciding whether or not to speak up: Fact #1:
If you are silent when others are accusing you or impugning your words or deeds,
you run the risk of appearing to agree. Fact #2:
If you are silent when someone is making a move into your areas of responsibility, it
will seem that you dont care. Fact #3:
If you are silent because of fear of reprisal or worry about unleashing your temper,
you will have lost an opportunity to defend and advance what you believe. Fact #4:
Not speaking up is worse than making a case but not succeeding. Heres how this plays out in the workplace: If a new co-worker or competitor infringes upon your established area of
responsibility and you say nothing, you run the risk of losing the business or job!
Better to acknowledge the salvo and decide the best course of action. If its a co-worker, you could calmly confront the person and re-establish your
territory and/or educate him/her on the best way to work with you. If its a competitor, ask your client if the account is in play. You might find that the
competitor has put in an unsolicited bid for the business! You could then reinforce
your position with the client by underscoring your loyalty to the team and how
youve contributed to its success. Now for a specific example of the positive results of speaking up: When I worked in the HR department of a large corporation, my boss, the HR
Director, received a poor performance appraisal. After his unsatisfactory review, he
proceeded to demean and blame his staff, making snide remarks within earshot of
the person he was singling out. This went on for several weeks until I couldnt stand
it anymore. I told the VP HR, and he relocated the Director to another floor for the
remainder of his time with the company. This experience resulted in the removal of a person who was demoralizing the
entire HR department. Further, I was offered the HR Director job on an interim basis,
which became permanent several months later. More importantly, I believe the VP-HR was impressed with my willingness to take a
stand. The assertiveness I demonstrated was a trait that he valued and it established
my ability to function successfully in a male-dominated department. Finally, speaking up serves a threefold purpose. It allows you to convincingly
articulate your case. It provides a platform to exhibit a quality that your boss may
highly prize. And if you succeed, it gives you the confidence to use your newfound
voice in other areas of your life. The next time you want to speak up, role play your case ahead of time with a
trusted friend or coach. You may have more to gain than you know. Dale Kurow, M.S., is an author and a career and executive coach in NYC. Dale works

Weight Control Tool: A Food Journal

By Virginia Bola, PsyD All the weight control experts recommend keeping a record of what you eat. Seeing your daily intake in black and white reality can boost your pride in your self-discipline, gently confront you with some less than stellar choices you've made, or cast you into a morass of guilt and depression when you face the epicurean debacle that your food intake represents. A food diary can become so much more useful for your weight wars if you use it as a tool for self-exploration and self-discovery. It allows you to create an oasis of support that anchors you in a world tossed by competing priorities, overwork, incredible dietary temptations, and social pressures that all lead to frustration, inwardly directed anger, diminished self-esteem, and terminal fatigue. What do we need to do to create such a tool? 1. Buy a good spiral notebook with lots of pages and a hard cover - you're going to keep this for a long time so avoid anything that's going to easily fall apart. 2. Enter the date you started your journey: this is the baseline against which you will compare your entries for the next several months. Under the date, enter the following information as accurately as you can make it, as of this very moment: Age
Height
Weight
Measurements Waist Bust Hips Thighs Upper arms Clothing size Type of hairstyle Any daily exercise obtained Today's primary mood Self-Appraisal (find 3 adjectives for each area) General appearance Size and shape Personal characteristics Interpersonal relationships Self-value Family or romantic relationships Level of self-satisfaction 3. Each day, you are going to enter not only what you ate, but the thoughts and emotions that accompanied the food. Note: Don't become obsessive - it more productive to keep this daily but if you run out of time and energy now and then, skip it, and get back to it when you can. 4. It is going to take some thought and memory-searching to ferret out what you need so find yourself a quiet spot where you can be alone and quiet. Keep your book there, close at hand, so you can quickly visit when you want to record anything that occurs to you. 5. Start teaching yourself to identify the inner landscape that accompanies your food intake. Focus on the moments before you ate: How did you feel at the time? Were you (genuinely) hungry - create a 1 to 10 rating scale for yourself, ranging from "not really" up to "starved, faint, light-headed." Were you bored? Were you anxious and trying to calm yourself down? Were you angry and stuffing that anger down your own throat? Were you feeling sorry for yourself? Were you with good friends and just wanted to be part of the group? Were you just not thinking? Were you trying to punish yourself -or someone else? You may find that you ate several times a day for the same reason or that the triggers to eat differed throughout the day depending upon the circumstances and people involved at the time. 6. Once you have jotted down everything related to the minutes before you ate (you may start out with very little to say but as you warm to this exercise, you will find yourself recording more and more information), consider how you felt directly afterwards. Did you feel satiated and serene? Did you feel proud of your food choices? Were you satisfied with all your selections? Did you feel stuffed and uncomfortable? Did you feel guilty about the choices you made? Were you angry with yourself for giving in to temptation and blowing your diet for the day? Did the food make you light and energetic or heavy and sleepy? Did you think about tomorrow morning's weigh-in with dread or anticipation? 7. Take a look at the day from the perspective of now (last thing in the evening or a look back the following morning). Try to look at your entries as if they belonged to someone else. As a dispassionate third party, what are your conclusions about the individual who recorded this data? Is this a self-aware, consciously motivated person or someone who lives on auto-pilot with little planning or direction? Is this someone who has internalized their diet goals and attempts to control their environment and intake? Is this an individual who merely 'talks the talk" but pursues actions that break those verbal rules? Is this a happy person who is cheerfully continuing the weight struggle with a sense of humor and self-forgiveness? Or is this someone who resents the conspiracies of nature which attempt to load on as much fat as possible, to ward off some improbable future famine? 8. If you are generally satisfied with the day's food intake, give yourself a mental pat on the back and relish the day's accomplishment. Promise yourself that one great day proves forever that you can do it. Identify a small, non-edible, reward for your self-discipline, inner strength, and personal commitment. Record your conclusions and bask in the self-satisfaction you so richly deserve. 9. If you feel disappointed in what you read, remind yourself that it is only one day in a lifetime of thousands of days. Forgive yourself and start over. Think about one or two changes you can make so the following day's record will not be quite so disappointing. Guard against swearing that today will be perfect: you are not going to get there overnight but you will get there, over time, slowly, one step at a time. You are learning to take baby steps that will nudge your food intake into closer alignment with your goals. You are going to gradually add techniques to your arsenal of weapons to keep temptation at bay. The simple fact of intake awareness will keep slowly propelling you towards the goals you have so carefully set. 10. At the end of your entry, enter your weight for the day - it will always fluctuate a little bit but will show you how you are doing when viewed over a period of time. Plants - Your New Roommate

By Jeanette Joy Fisher There's a lot of talk about green living nowadays, and bringing green plants into your home can be a wonderful decorating idea. You can create lush indoor landscapes relatively easily, without spending a lot of money. People have been bringing plants into their homes and using them as part of their decoration schemes for thousand of years. That makes sense, because people simply feel closer to nature with plants nearby. Plants require some attention, of course, but they can be therapeutic, especially during the winter months, giving gardeners a regular "plant fix" until the weather breaks in the spring. There are also other health benefits to having plants in the house, as well. They emit oxygen and remove pollutants from the air, thereby improving air quality inside the home. From a decorating standpoint, houseplants provide both color and texture to a home's decor, and can be used to either augment a color scheme or to cover areas that aren't particularly to your liking. For instance, trailing plants such as English ivy can be used as wall or window treatments by installing a high shelf that allows the ivy to cascade downward. Enhance the stunning effect with a plant light to keep the plant happy. If you prefer a tall plant to create an effect in a room, consider the classical Kentia palm. which tolerates small containers and tolerates the soil drying out a bit. An excellent choice for an interior palm. the Kentia prefers some direct light through a window, but doesn't need bright light. Kentias, available in both tall and bushy varieties, create a dramatic focal point to a decorating scheme. Add an uplight, and you've created a dramatic effect with exotic shadows. Plants can also be hung in planters from the ceiling and allowed to cascade. One popular plant for creating that kind of effect is the spider plant, which develops long tendrils. Such plants can be quite lovely when suspended near large windows as part of an overall window treatment. Choosing various textures for your planters can also add drama and accent to your home's decor. You can find planters made of many different materials; ceramics and clay are the most common, but a clay planter can be wrapped in jute, hemp, or other material to give it a strikingly different look. You can also use different types and colors of material to suspend your planters, giving you even more decorating options. You can even use small potted plants as accent pieces on kitchen counters, on a mantle in the living room, on the coffee table in the family room, or on a bookshelf in the den. Wherever you choose to use them, plants can provide extra drama, warmth, texture, and color to your home's decor. Plus, plants keep your indoor air fresh while connecting you to nature. Want An Adult Scholarship? Try This

By Nic Haffner If you consider to go back to school after a long tiway, you probably know how expensive it is going to be. If you are established with a home and a family or are in your 30's or 40's, you have plenty of other money worries. The question is: How can you find an adult scholarship? Do not dispair; there actually is a niche for you out there. There are lots of free money for those of us who are a little older than the regular college student and want an education. The first thing to do is a little preliminary research. You should find out what kinds of programs you are eligible. There is free money available for people of all walks of life. Try to avoid financial aid that is just for recent high school graduates. There are quite a few out there that you will be ineligible for because of your age. You can narrow your search by avoiding those with age restrictions. If you can find financial aid specifically for returning students, it will not have any age restriction. You should apply for anything you might be eligible for. Don't put any limits for yourself. Take advantage of all the free money available for adults and education, it's just a matter of finding a program that suits you. The first place you might try looking is your local library. They will have tons of resources there for scholarships. Librarians are knowledgeable about these resources and will help you find what you need. Be patient. Stick around and take notes on what you find. Here is the hard part. You have to skim through all the resources available and look for anything that might help you get that money. If you find something suitable, contact those particular organizations. Request more information and they will probably send you all the materials you need to apply. You may also be able to contact them by a 1-800 number, in which case you can talk to a representative of the organization and get tips for applying. Remember that you are not stealing; they have all this money lying around waiting to be claimed by a successful applicant. If you have any help filling out forms, ask someone's advice. Always fill them out thoroughly. Be sure to write clearly. If you have to write an essay, make sure that it flows well and there aren't any grammar or spelling mistakes. You can always ask someone to proofread it if you are unsure. The important thing is to apply for as many as you can. You never know which one may be able to get you the money you need. Eat Your Way To Healthy Weight Loss

By Lee Dobbins Everyone knows that weight loss can be a battle with food, but did you know that there are some foods that can help you take off the weight and keep it off? Without succumbing to the latest fad diet you can eat healthy and lose weight since these foods are packed with nutrients vitamins and minerals that will help keep your body healthy as well as trim. Fruit and vegetables have long been tops on dieters lists and with good reason. These foods are loaded with fiber and fiber helps you feel full longer without packing on the calories that other foods have. The key is, of course, to eat fruits and vegetables that are low in calories and high in fiber. Some vegetables that are very high in fiber include peas, cooked artichoke, brussels sprouts and turnip greens. Fruits you might want to eat Include pears, apples, blueberries and strawberries. Another food or type of food, that might be good for dieters is protein. While a lot of protein is high in fat and calories you can pick leaned choices that are low in calories and protein can help curb your appetite and may help to boost your metabolism. Green tea is a great choice for dieters and researchers think that the helpful phytochemicals called catechins may help the body to burn calories which in turn decreases body fat and, therefore, weight loss. Green tea has a slew of other health benefits as well it is really a superfood so drink as much of it as you can either warm or I aced Soup and salad is a wonderful dieters meal if you choose wisely. Salads with lots of greens, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers and other great vegetables are fabulous for losing weight but the key is you cant add high fat dressings, cheeses and croutons. If you pick the ingredients for your salad ingredients wisely all the fiber that you eat can help to fight cravings as well as a eliminate blood sugar spikes later in the afternoon. Yogurt is a great dieters food even though It can be high in carbohydrates but if you pick one that is low in sugar or sugar-free this can help you fight off hunger pangs that crop up in the afternoon. Choose a yogurt that has live cultures and you be infusing your digestive system with helpful bacteria that can help aid digestion as well as help you absorb nutrients better. Beans have a great combination of fiber and protein that can help you feel full for quite some time. This can help curb that between meal snacking. Water is vital to the functioning of your body and can also help you feel full. In fact, many times when you think youre hungry your body is actually telling you that it needs water! Sex Workers Needed in Washington DC; Lobbyists

By Lance Winslow Are you a sex worker from another country or perhaps from Las Vegas Nevada and you simply are tired of the same old scene and are looking for a better job? Did you know the corporate lobbyists and law firms in and around Washington D.C. will hire you as a sex worker/lobbyist. You can make all kinds of money as long as you're willing to keep your mouth shut and you can either work as a heterosexual or there is more and more work in Washington D.C. for homosexual sex workers these days. Sex workers are needed in Washington D.C. as House lobbyists. Sex workers are also needed to satisfy foreign dignitaries who come to visit the United States of America. In a sense you would be doing it for your country and making a lot of money for simply keeping your mouth shut or open at certain times depending on what was required by those that hire you. If you are a sex worker the pay in Washington D.C. is completely off the scale if you are good. A good-looking young lady with a nice tight body can make a hell of a lot of money in Washington D.C.. A buff young man who is a homosexual can make a ton of money taking care of senators and congressmen and their staffers or staff depending on how you look at it. Sex workers are needed in Washington D.C. and they just can't get enough of them these days. The folks in Washington D.C. or so busy screwing sex workers that sometimes they forget to screw the American people, like is most typical and may be that is a good thing? Consider this in 2006. Are Steroids an Eczema Solution?

By Kim Standerline Steroids in the form of topical steroids are one of the most commonly used forms of treatments for eczema. They are an eczema solution that appears to be making the grade. Topical steroids are particularly useful, not when a case of eczema is calm, but when it is experiencing a flare-up and skin is inflamed, red and terribly itchy. When the ouch it at its extreme, thats when topical steroids are most needed. Steroids serve to reduce the level of inflammation and are used across the board with most kinds of eczema. Topical steroids are available in four different strengths and these include mild, moderately potent (or moderately strong), potent and very potent. A doctor will decide what strength of steroid cream a patient requires and it is dependent on three factors- the patients age, how severe the skin condition is and the part of the body (including the size of the area) that is affected by eczema. When applied, topical steroids must be put on the skin with a very fine application and it is important to always carefully follow your doctors directions for use. Never use a heavy hand in applying the topical steroid and dont apply it more times a day that you were originally instructed to. Regular visits to your physician are necessary when you are using topical steroids to ensure that the treatment is effective and to determine if the dosage is proper. When eczema is at its most severe, sometimes oral steroids are prescribed to patients. This form of steroid is often a last resort and is only prescribed when topical steroids have been rendered ineffective. Dermatologists are more likely to prescribe oral steroids to patients as opposed to a general practitioner. There are potential side effects involved with steroid use, in particular the oral steroids, and those who take them need to be monitored extremely closely. It is important to note that the steroids used for eczema treatments are not the same as the steroids taken by athletes. Topical corticosteroids have been used in the treatment of eczema for over a period of thirty years. They come available in the form of creams, ointments and lotions. The strengths of topical cortisone creams vary. To use an example, hydrocortisone cream is available in 1% and it is weaker in potency than is Betamethasone Valerte, which is available in 0.1% strength. Still weaker than those two is Clobetasol Propionate which has strength of 0.05%. For those suffering from mild to moderate eczema, steroids reduce flare-ups by acting as a moisturizing agent and providing a moderate level of potency. A good example of a topical corticosteroid in this instance is Eumovate. For moderate to severe cases of eczema, steroids also provide moisturizing and are excellent at relieving itching and swelling of the skin. An example of a good potent topical corticosteroid is Fluticasone Propionate. This type must be applied to the skin two times a week to work effectively. In order to minimize the side effects of using topical steroids, it is important to use them on only the thickest and most resistant patches of affected skin. They also should only be used once a day and for no longer a period than two to three weeks. The most successful results when it comes to steroid use are seen when steroids are applied in the early evening hours. Kim Standerline is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years hospital experience.

Yoga for Weight Loss

By Terrill B You have probably heard it many times, "Yoga is a great way to lose weight without side effects". But, is it really? Yoga is a spiritual practice to discipline mind, body and spirit. There are many different types of yoga exercises. Some of them are aimed at reducing stress, improving posture, healing physical ailments and discovering self. So, what about weight loss? Is Yoga really the most effective way to lose weight without worrying about side effects? The main focus in yoga is always to bring unity between the mind, body and spirit. Although yoga asanas might help in weight loss, they are not specifically designed for weight loss. All yoga exercises help to tone and strengthen the body muscles that in turn help create a healthy body. Yoga enhances flexibility and helps you correct the problems caused by weight gain. However, yoga is not a quick fix to weight gain, but it can be an excellent long term alternative approach to weight loss and fitness. What about yoga for those who struggle with self confidence when it comes to weight loss? Yoga can be an excellent tool to boost self confidence among these individuals. Yoga provides a safe way for these individuals to communicate with their body and clear out the self destructive messages. Yoga creates a rich flow of prana (life energy) in the body which can be extremely beneficial if your weight loss campaign has been jeopardized due to lack of energy and motivation. You can also use yogic diet to help you lose weight. Yogic diet is high in fiber, whole grain and vegetables. It might be the best way to combat fat, meat and processed food. Embracing a yogic lifestyle means self respect, discipline and action. This might be the perfect way for people who find it difficult to get off the couch and get moving given its emphasis on self discipline. Yoga is a process and a lifestyle. It is not a quick way to lose a pound or two. Yoga is a holistic approach to reaching a healthy lifestyle and maintaining it.
